1987 Caprice 9C1

9C1 is the GM option for the "police package"

The 1987 9C1 package includes (as far as I know):

auxillary power block on fender
more powerful (105-amp?) alternator
Thicker frame
Engine oil cooler
larger transmission oil cooler
geneally larger engines / better induction than civilian models
stiffer suspension (higher rate springs / Bilstein shocks
Higher-feedback steering
350ci (5.7litre) engine

The Chevrolet Caprice is part of GM's "B-Body" platform, which also includes the 1994-1996 Impala SS, Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, Cadillac Fleetwood and Buick Roadmaster.

The frame and suspension are virtually identical on the Caprice/Impala from 1977-1996.

Exeptions to this that I know of are:

Larger lower balljoints - 1993 or so
Rear disc brakes on 9C1 - 1994-1996
Double-humped transmission crossmember for dual exhaust - 1994-1996 9C1 and Impala SS

My car has approximately 260,000 miles on it, 40,000 of which I've put on.

The back doors do not open from the inside.

It weighs about 4,200 pounds (pure guess).

It is very fun to drive.

4,200 lbs is a lot to push when you run out of gas!
