As some of you already know, Brian has expressed a desire to relinquish the responsibility for the day to day running and organising {i.e. collecting money, purchasing tickets, claiming prizes etc} of the Dixons Cardiff Lottery Syndicate.

Whilst thanking Brian for all the hard work and effort that has ensured the smooth running of our syndicate over the past 2 years or so, it is now time to move on and select a new Syndicate Organiser.

Over the past 3 weeks several people have approached me and asked whether I would be prepared to take on this important role. Whilst my answer is "Yes, I would!", I am keen that such an appointment is not seen as a "fait accompli" by other syndicate members who might also like, and be prepared to take on, this leadership position.

In short, if anyone else is interested now is the time to ‘toss your hat into the ring’ and be considered!

That said, I feel I will take this opportunity to set out briefly some ideas I have for the running of our lottery syndicate. It should go without saying that any "ideas" that I might have and put forward in the future can, of course, be vetoed if a simple majority of the syndicate members do not like them!!

So, in no particular order :

• Syndicate Membership Whilst I feel that the number of people in the syndicate is generally OK {currently 20} I feel that there is scope for possibly increasing this figure over a period of time to a maximum of 30. It is my own view that I would rather have 30 chances of winning 1/30th of £7 million than 20 chances of winning 1/20 of £7 M. It would not be my intention to "actively chase" possible new members - just be receptive to any people who expressed an interest. I would also look to possibly introduce a new "Guest Scheme". I will finalise the exact details to put to members at a later date but in simple terms, as an example, it might take this form - "Guest Member" {i.e. maybe the Area Manager on one of his visits, or a relief manager on a Sunday} pays £1 for entry into the syndicate for one week. If 3 numbers come up that week - no share. 4 numbers - another "free" go next week. 5 or 6 numbers - full syndicate share. {Comments on this idea most welcome!!} Whatever the outcome of these new proposals, 2 rules of membership to our syndicate would always apply, those being : 1 - you must be a permanent employee of The Dixons Group and 2 - you must have a "suitable connection" with the Dixons Store in Cardiff.

• Selection of Numbers I would like to inject some "fun" into the selection of some of the numbers. Whilst I think it is a good idea to keep some of the numbers unchanged for every draw, I think that some numbers should be selected/changed on a monthly basis. 20 people in the syndicate paying £1 a week buys us 10 sets of numbers in each of the 2 weekly draws on Wednesday and Saturday. How about if we were to keep 7 numbers the same for every draw but then 3 sets of numbers are changed on a monthly basis. These changed numbers are to be determined on a "fun/perceived lucky" basis. {Again - any ideas??!!} I think most people might like the idea that there are some "variables" in the whole process rather than just paying your money every 2 months and then forgetting about it.

• Payment of Money It is still my intention to collect all money in advance but I do want to try and devise a system that would allow me to accept "ad-hoc" payments to encourage people to keep their payments suitably up to date and in advance!! {Note - this system NOT designed to allow people to pay as little and late as possible!}

• Notification of Numbers and Results Once a month I would look to devise a "news-sheet" to both inform members of the numbers going forward into next months draw and also to bring people up to date with any winnings the syndicate might have accumulated. It is to be hoped that as many members as possible collect one of these sheets and look forward to watching out for our sets of numbers in each National Lottery Draw.

Good luck everybody,
