Following on from my last letter, I am pleased to announce that Brian and I have completed the handover of the responsibility for organising the Dixons Cardiff Lottery syndicate.
I have inspected "The Books" and found them to be completely in order, and again, on behalf of all members of the syndicate I thank Brian for all the hard work he has done over the past 2 years to keep the syndicate running smoothly.
There are one or two minor loose ends to tie up and it is to these things I turn to now :
• Remaining Lottery Prize Money - On Friday 2nd April the Prize Fund stood at £174.00.
Most of this money - £160.00 - was used to purchase the next 8 weeks Lottery Tickets {i.e. 10 sets of numbers in each of the 16 draws commencing on Saturday 6th April ending with the draw on Wednesday 26th May}.
It was Brians intention to collect £8 lottery subscriptions from everybody around the pay-day on 1st April as "payment in advance" for this period but as we all know, Brians thoughts were quite naturally on other things at this time and through nobodies fault, these collections were not made.
• Proposal for "Free Draw" Period - As Lottery Organiser I propose that we use the Prize
Fund Kitty to pay for the Period 6th April - 26th May.
To a certain extent, this will tie in naturally with "New Members" and I’ll come to this next.
• New members to Lottery Syndicate - There are currently 18 Members in the Syndicate. {Neil Ferrissey left last month}. 2 new people have expressed an interest in joining {Andrew Hoyle and Adam ‘D.M’.} and this would make up the numbers to our "normal" 20. Without appearing "penny-pinching" most of the Syndicate Members would probably be of the opinion that the "Free Period" proposed should be for the ‘paid up members only’....SO...to get them on the books as soon as possible I will take £4 each to cover them for immediate entry into our syndicate starting with the draw on Saturday 1st May.
• £20 Million Super Draw on May 1st - We have £14 left in the Prize Fund Kitty. I intend to use £4 of this for 4 extra goes in the "Super Draw". These numbers will be selected using "very imaginative suggestions" that you are all going to come up with in work this Saturday!!!!
• Proposed "free draw" on Sat May 29th - I propose to use the last £10 of the Prize Fund on this
day to enable me to start the lottery on a "FIRST DAY
WEDNESDAY - LAST DAY SATURDAY" basis because it is easier to manage/understand.
• Collection of Fees for next Draw Period - The ‘wind down’ of the current Prize Draw Kitty
make it imperative that fees for the next period,
{i.e. Start Wednesday June 2nd to End Saturday July 26th} are collected on time and in
advance. Ideally I would like to have all the money collected by the middle of next week!
As soon as I have all the money in I will draw up new "Lottery Contracts" listing all the names
of the people in the Syndicate and the agreed rules on the sharing of prizes etc.
{NOTE - it is still my intention to bring in a system of being able to collect the money in a
more ‘flexible’ way...BUT... but due to my 3 week holiday in late June/early July we will
continue with Brians usual way of "£8 for a period of 8 weeks in advance"}.
• Clarification of Neil Ferrissey - Neil was a fully paid up member of the syndicate up to Saturday 3rd April and so, by my reckoning, is entitled to share in the "Free Period" that we are having now. In the happy event of us having a "Jackpot Win" at any time upto Saturday 29th June, it will be shared equally 21 WAYS to include Neil.
