Touring Turkey

Turkey is a large country at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. Western Turkey is bordered by the Black Sea to the north and by the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas to the west and south. Eastern Turkey is bordered by the Black Sea to the north and by five Middle Eastern countries on its eastern and southern borders. MAP

The main areas for tourism are located in Western Turkey. There are historical sites everywhere in Turkey, however the most popular sites are in Istanbul, Cappadocia and the Aegean region. MAP

There are many opportunities for organized tours of Turkey and there are companies that specialize only in this type of tour. However, to see as much as possible in the usually limited amount of time available it is much more practical to design your own tour. Of course in order to be able to do this you first have to:

  • Research what there is to see and do.
  • Decide which places you want to visit.
  • Decide how long to allow at each location.
  • Establish and decide upon the transport options available between locations.
  • Calculate the amount of traveling time required between locations.
  • Decide your accommodation budget.
  • Check what local excursions are available from each location.
  • Decide if you want to include a Gulet cruise in your itinerary.

If this all sounds too daunting a task to organize in another country you would be right. This is where we can help, our free tour planning service will guide you through every stage from outline itinerary to the final priced tour.   more...

Located at the center of the known world 2,500 years ago it is no wonder that Turkey has such a rich historical heritage.

It was about this time that the early Christians (300-400BC) were worshiping the coming of Christ. The Seven Churches of Revelation mentioned in the Old Testament are all close to Izmir, Turkeys third largest city.

It has been acknowledged by the Vatican that the Virgin Mary ended her days in Ephesus. A shrine has been established in what is believed to be the House of the Virgin Mary on a hilltop close to Ephesus.
