Welcome to the Official Web Site for PCPadlock!

PCPadlock is a free computer locking program for 32-Bit Windows. The program works with Windows 95, Windows 98 1st/2nd Edition, and Windows ME (Millennium Edition). Unfortunately, PCPadlock does NOT work with Windows 3.1 or 3.11, Windows NT or Windows 2000. People using operating systems built on NT technology, such as Microsoft Windows 2000 are advised to use the inbuilt locking system (CTRL-ALT-DEL and click Lock Computer).

PCPadlock, once loaded, sits in the System Tray (next to the clock). To activate it, simply double click the picture of an open padlock. Once activated, the icon will briefly change to a locked padlock (approximately 2 seconds), before the Start Menu disappears, and the 'Computer Locked' screen appears (see screenshot). It is at that moment that your PC is secured from unwanted users intruding the system whilst you are away. PCPadlock blocks the Start Menu key, the ALT-TAB combination, as well as CTRL-ALT-DEL. Once unlocked, the open padlock returns to the System Tray, awaiting activation once again.

Each incorrect password entered is logged, showing the time, and the password supplied. The log is showed as soon as the correct password has been entered.

PCPadlock can either load manually, or load on immediately on bootup. If it is loaded immediately on bootup, you have two options: Remain inactive, where the open padlock is shown, for you to activate, or Automatically Activate, where it automatically locks.

You can define a background picture to be displayed once locked. The options menu can be shown by right clicking the padlock and choosing Options. You will be asked for your password before you are allowed to enter the Options menu. You are also asked for your password before you can close PCPadlock.
