I am putting some of the art up that I like, it is for personal consumption and for private enjoyment, not for profit. If I have breached copyright please let me know, but I feel these images are to be enjoyed for themselves only and not for pecunary interest. I have photographed a fair bit of the art in the Victoria and Albert Museum, and am busy converting the images to display here. Islamic Screens have been converted into patterns and can be found in the phototexture section. Chartres Cathedral is just the most amazing artistic endeavour of the age, it was built relatively quickly in terms of the time scales of building at that time. The stained glass in incredible, but difficult to reproduce here. Symbology and semiology were important to the minds and culture of the time, and Chartres in consistent in the meaning of its christian mythology (memes). The Angers Tapestry is the apocaplypse rendered into cloth, I just love these nightmare visions used to "command and control" the populace. There are still terrors in the 21st century, because man really hasn't changed much despite so called civilisation. Humans are still vicious prejudiced creatures who seek solace in the collusion of groups, and people are still metaphorically stoned and burned to death for being individuals! Auto da Fe. Escher, just wonderful, impossible worlds, patterns within patterns, metamorphosis. Magritte, surreal impossible worlds, visual jokes. |
