December/November/October 1999

Game off yesterday, what a pain ! We were already on the train when we heard but luckily we had just left Waverly so we got off at Slateford and spent the day in the pub (oh ma heid ......). So, that's the last I'll see of Hearts this century, hopefully they can get themselves sorted out over the winter break.

I have been hearing some real horror stories from the boys about the state I was in at the hibs game, suffice to say I'll be totally mortified to go back to my seat and face everybody, that's the worst thing about having a season ticket in an all-seater stadium, you have to face the same people every week, I now have the whole of the winter break to sit and cringe. Of course, now that the boys know that I can't remember a thing they have started making things up, I KNOW I kept all my clothes on, despite what they are trying to make me believe. I will never, ever drink vodka & red bull again, 'specially not house measures. Drinking is a mugs game. Oh for the annonyminity (is that a word ?) of the old shed. Cringe, cringe. Anyway, probably won't be updating for a while as there is nothing Jambo-ish to report so happy New Year to everyone.

December 21st 1999

I have now completely sobered up and things are back into perspective again, so the vermin beat us 3-0 at home, we've done it to them often enough, we will get over it. Just means that the next time we will have to get our revenge. There are still two games against them left this season, and if we win them both then we will have taken 7 points from them which is still pretty good.

Still a wee bit concerned about JJ and some of his strange team decisions, Like Darren Jackson up front when you have Juanjo on the bench etc, but as long as HE realises he has made an arse of things lately and that 3-5-2 doesn't always work, and takes action for the next two games then builds on that after the winter break - then he will be all right as well. There's been a lot of over-reaction (me included) so the next few games will be a real test for Jeffries, I hope he gets through it.

I'm glad I faced the hibbies right away on Sunday, get it over and done with (they'll still take the p*ss at Xmas and New Year when we see them but at least I didn't hide though I was sorely tempted). I've got some photos taken before and after the game which I may put up here but obviously I'd expected us to be the celebrating ones not them ! Oh well - there's always next time, c'mon the Hearts !!

December 20th 1999

I am now the most hung over girl in scotland (see below).... I am feeling very sad today, not just because we got humped fi the leithers, but I think that JJ has lost the plot and I can't see how he is going to turn it around this time, it reallly looks like he has to go and that makes me sad because the romance of a pure jambo in charge was good, but it is now like having Gary Locke as the manager - it's all for the wrong reasons.

I can't believe that kevin James still gets in the doors at Tynecastle, never mind on the pitch. Petric ... pah, don't get me started !!

The winter shut down can't come soon enough. I hope every single player is hanging his head in shame today, I live just round the corner fi Tynecastle, and if I wasn't so hungover I'd be round there demanding an explanation for last nights disgraceful performance.

(2 am or something) I must be the most drunk girl in Scotland as I write this ... but, it is part of my duty as a Jambo to report in after a defastating loss against the dirty, smelly hibbie bas*ards. Oh well, like they now really believe thay are a good team, huh, it wiz only us they beat !!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I still believe that Hearts will win trophies this season, the league is for losers, the Scottish Cup is the REAL one...... ps>>> I am very very drunk right now, have been up the grass market with some imbocile hibbies ... give them their moment of glory ...... we'll have ours soon enuff !!!

December 16th 1999

Today is my last working day this century - yippee !! Anyway, derby day is almost upon us again, omigod. We better win, I just couldn't bear to lose. Although our last game was a defeat at pittodrie, i am not too concerned as form goes right out the window when it comes to playing the vermin. We are having a party before it, we HAVE invited our hibee pals (that's why the party is before only, they'll maybe wreck the place when they are taking out their misery at getting gubbed ...), anyway, I have to look out all the corny Hearts cds and old videos we have. I think the wayne Foster game will be getting an airing !!! Not sure what to think about the stan Collymore possibilty - it is appently a pay-per-play offer hearts have made so he can't come up here and feign injury or anything, I quite like the idea of him against the hibbies on Sunday but I think the jambos should be concentrating on building a long term team, loan signings help out in crisis but not long term - are we officially having a crisis ???? December 11th 1999

So ... you can imagine how much slagging I got at work on Thursday morning ! I had predicted the correct score but the other way round (ie, 3-1 to Hearts). I was dreading going in and the boys didn't let me down with there level of abuse. I couldn't believe the team selection on Wednesday, after scoring such great goals against Dundee United he changed the team dramatically and we all know the consequences. The script was written for the sheep to get their first home win in the league against us - while I was working up there.

So, I am shortly about leave for Perth, I have no expectations about the game today, and in fact if it is called off due to water-logged pitch or something, and I can spend the day in the pub I'd be delighted !

Jeffries had announced he won't play Paul Ritchie again, and while it is sad, I think it is the right decision for hearts and for Paul. So many fans were booing him and all the good years he had here were being forgotten, Hearts have to prepare themselves for when he does go. i wish him luck - except if he does end up at Ibrox, it still hurts to see Neil McCann there. Anyway, better go to the match.

December 4th 1999

Gordon Petric - I dinnae f'n believe it - and spending so much money on him .... what is going on ?? JJ has proved us wrong in the past with McSwegan and Pressley, also Jackson to an extent but...... However on a positive note, JJ seems to be buying and looking for defenders so maybe he's has realised that James isn't making the grade and is trying to get someone to replace him ?? A clear out is necessary I think.

I am still working in Aberdeen during the week so I am looking forward to the place being full of Jambos on wednesday (unless the game is called off due to snow ... it's pretty awful up there just now). Dundee United at home tomorrow night, we need a win to get us climbing up the table again. Good to see the hibees getting humped by sellic, not long until derby day !! I don't enjoy playing hibs at tynecastle as much as I do easter Road but I enjoy a victory at any time.

Kilmarnock - 2, Hearts - 2

Well, what has been happening to the Jambos since I last updated this page ?

Three sent off and three last minute goals in the the last three games, we are becoming a bit of a sad joke. We were all over sellic at tynecastle until Cameron got sent off (justifiably for the offence but not by the standard of offences in the game that sellic were getting away with). I am quite mystified by it all. I also hate seeing JJ trying to spend the money but getting held back, it was a good morale boost for us all the hear about the investment but now everyone is going to bump up there prices and players make outrageous demands. Looks like the up-coming derby game is going to be a six pointer !!

I am still working in aberdeen during the week, I have had the offer to go to the Aberdeen-Hearts game in the Aberdeen end .... but I really dinnae think I could handle that (coz SURELY we won't lose against them as well).

November 13th 1999

Just a quickie today, I haven't updated lately as I am working in Aberdeen for a while and don't have access to the Internet until weekends (and then I am usually to busy). I am in early tonight as Scotland have just been beaten 2-0 by ingulund and I don't feel like partying tonight. Hibs are temporarily above Hearts and all the hibbies have come out of the woodwork, didn't hear much from them when they were 2nd bottom, I have great faith that they will soon be back near the bottom. It is weird working up in sheep-land, amongst all the sheep-sh*ggers, they are remarkably loyal all things considering ... still sh*t though. Anyway, I am a bit behind on HMFC gossip but hope to update this page properly very shortly.

Hearts - 2 (Cameron, Juanjo), Kilmarnock -2

Oh we were awful last night ! And Killie were even worse for not managing to bury us.

I thought the East Fife game was bad but last night may have topped it. It would have been a total injustice if we had won, Bobby Williamson would have been correct to phone the police and report the robbery of 3 points.

Hearts just couldn't connect and Kevin James was awful he just does not look the part of a premier league player I am afraid. Rousset is starting to cause me a few nightmares as well. I know that he has done us proud over the years but JJ should really be in a rush to get his cheque book out now. A few of the guys were joking that Ally McCoist was coming on with his crutches, he would probably have scored a hat-trick against us last night.

On the semi positive side, I hope that Juanjo's wonder goal will give him more confidence and combined with a decent run in the team he will live up to the expectations placed on him, he is very fast and tricky with the ball but a bit frightened when being taken on by big defenders still but a decent run in the team will knock that out of him. Also, pleased to report that Fulton looked a bit better last night (he couldnae have got any worse though). Oh well, a trip to Dens Park on Saturday - just what we need (arghhhh). I am trying to book a last minute holiday, hopefully we leave on Saturday and I dinnae need to go to Dens (I am making a conscious effort this season to go to all away games except Ibrox and Parkhead, unless in the cup, the Glasgow scum dinnae deserve my money).

On a different note, I didn't go to the pub before or after the game last night as I am still recovering from a bout of flu', so it was the first time since I moved house that I have went straight to and from the game and it was really weird, it literally takes me one minute to get from my house into the ground, and after the game - one minute I was amongst thousands of angry football fans, next minute I was in the house, no road rage, queues for buses, getting soaked in a massive walk home, ace (but I won't making a habit of it, I'll be back in the pubs, ye need a drink or two to watch Hearts these days).

October 18th 1999

Hearts - 1, St Johnstone - 1

So that's 2 crap games I've been to this week ! I blame the fixture upheaval, we canny get a decent run out together and are losing our smooth form. Saturday was awful, a good start then we just faded away into oblivion, punting high balls all the time, arggh how annoying. Two wonderful goals though. And at least our problems are nothing compared to Aberdeen ! Sellic will get to keep them if they give them any more doings like Saturday's 7-0 defeat.

I never made it into a different pub on Saturday, I was very hung over (I'd been out on the Friday for my mum's 50th and had too much red wine - that's a killer). So I will need to get onto it the next few home games. But next weekend is another weekend without a game - I don't think I am going to go to Ibrox this season, too many stories off away fans getting spat on and abuse, I'll keep my money to myself I think.

October 13th 1999

East Fife - 0, Hearts - 2 (Cameron - pen, Holmes)

Well, we are through to the next round of the cup and the hibbies are out so I guess that it was a very successful evening last night, but boy did we suffer for it ! It was an awful game, very boring and incident-less, our shooting was atrocious and their goalie was in great form. Giles Rousset did pull off two fantastic saves and that was really the highlight of the night apart from hearing the Hibs scores at half-time and full time. And I think with the recent lack of games the Hearts fans have forgotten how to sing as I have seen a better atmosphere at funerals. Given that it was £15 to get in (what a bloody rip off) I am surprised as many fans turned out.

I was questioning whether Jeffries was giving a team talk at half time or was he jumping up and down leading a chorus of 'the Hibs are out the cup ...', and if he was, was Darren Jackson joining in ??

I am going to be drinking in a different pub before and after the game this weekend, to help me with my 'Pubs Near Tynecastle' section for No Idle Talk, seeing as how I got a massive response to my request for people to write reports for me (i.e. about 2 people bothered). It will either be the Balmoral (Auld Worthies) or the Ardmillan Hotel, depends how I feel. Funny, I have been in these pubs many times but never directly before and after a game.

A final wee moan is that I am EXTREMELY p*ssed off that our game at Pittodrie is been moved from the Saturday (for the Euro-2000 play offs). I understand why but I was so looking forward to having a Saturday trip to Aberdeen. And I am also a wee bit disappointed with the draw, I was looking forward to a holiday in Slovenia or Israel as we were going to go out for a week if it was any of these teams, oh well.... two magic p*ss ups ahead though, but I'm afraid I don't see any possible way Scotland can win. Wonder how many Jambos will start the match ?

October 4 1999

So, another weekend of no football, this season is all stopping and starting, it is beginning to p*ss me off severely, and more of our games have been changed for Sky (Dundee Utd and Hibs - now 5th and 19th December respectively), I can't complain because it is more money for Hearts but what happened to the good old Saturday afternoon game ? I am having to do things like shopping on a Saturday, that is for 'normal' birds, not for me !

I am slightly dreading the first Hibs game at Tynecastle as we now live in the new houses near Tynecastle (on the site of the old Ferranti) and there is a fountain right outside our house and we have been warned that it will resemble the fountain in Trafalgar Square after the first derby match (as all our hibbie friends will be in the area as well as our Jambo ones), so far our neighbours think we are really quiet but after that game ...... oh well.

Anyway, imagine my delight when I came home from the gym on Saturday and found that Hibs were getting beat by Aberdeen, OK they managed to claw their way back into in quite an exciting finish but just for a few moments I was deliriously happy with the football scores and Hearts weren't even playing.

So, no other Jambo news to report apart from it seems that Paul Ritchie is nearly ready to make a decision on his future and it is unlikely to be at Tynecastle, well, the situation isn't as bad now as we will have money to replace him but  no doubt there will be a lot of controversy about the situation again. I see Hearts failed in a bid to sign Magic Johnston, well I am kinda glad in a funny way as he has never been able to show commitment and loyalty anywhere yet so I have no doubts he would end up screwing us up again.

I am facing a moral dilemma just now - should I go to Ibrox ?? It is £17 a ticket and I really hate going through there, I quite fancy missing it, I know Hearts need as many fans there as possible but I just don't want to spend that kind of money to go there and get spat on and pies chucked at you and everything. I went to Parkhead recently to see us getting gubbed 4-0 and it was just a miserable experience (OK the fans sung and were superb). My justification for not going is that I am not giving the Huns my money, other reasons against going are that my sister is having a party the night before to celebrate her wedding and therefore I will be hungover anyway . I have a couple of weeks to decide as there is a closing date for category members to get their tickets. I know a lot of fans feel this way as well.
