The object of the game is to earn the most prestige points, which are available by building, giving offerings to the castle, and obtaining money, gold, and resources.
Each player has a set of building cards in their own colour, along with 4 workers. Once the game is setup,
the game rounds begin with an income phase, followed by each player doing one of several actions, most actions
costing 1 denier. The actions are:
Place a worker on a building to gain the buildings benefit
Build a new building from cards in your hand, which costs the resources on the card
Draw a new card from the deck
Exchange the 3 cards in your hand
Pass
Once players have all passed and had a chance to move the provost marker, each building where there is a worker then pays out, such as resources. Then resources can be used to build the castle. These offerings are in batches and must consist of one wood, one food, and one stone.
Once all castle parts are used, the game ends and the player with the most prestige wins. Prestige can be earned in several ways and it is this that makes the game such a joy to play.
Being a card game, good hand-management is needed to play well and the game manages to play much as the boardgame Caylus, but in a more streamlined and speedier game than the original.
