Plunder comes in a chest shaped box that is surprisingly small on the outside yet is packed with treasure, just as a treasure chest should be!
What we have here is pretty much a card game, where the cards are put into play and form the playing surface across which your ship travels as it plunders and loots.
This game is in way a historical simulation, but a fun game about the time of the pirates who sailed the shipping lanes for treasure and raided the occasional town for loot.
Each turn, the player moves their ship and if there is an open space next to your ship and you hold a sea card, you play the card and move onto it, making the playing surface bigger. Next you can take an action, in which you can play a card, trade, attack a port, or attack another captain.
Combat is done by by comparing your ship's speed, cannon, and crew numbers to that of the ship you are attacking.
The object of all this is to gain enough silver to win the game.
SUMMARY:
The game actually is fun to play, doesn't take itself too seriously and works pretty well. It doesn't take long to play and although the rules could have been better written it's still an original and fine game.
