As the attacker, you get to roll 1,2 or 3 dice depending on the size of your army.
The defender rolls either 1 or 2 dice, depending on the size of his army. You then compare dice rolls. The highest die each of you rolls is compared. If attackers is higher, defender loses one, and vice versa. You then compare your next two highest. Ties are won by the defender.
Once you claim a territory, you then roll on to the next territory and keep going until you either run out of units or decide to stop.
This is a game of elimination, a type of game I'm not keen on, but nevertheless, this is a classic game of its genre and very enjoyable to play. Megolamaniacs will love it!
SUMMARY:
A game of luck and skill, that's been around almost as long as Monopoly and deservedly so.

Additional: Since the original Risk, over the years many versions have become available, and in recent years, it has even been rethemed for Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Transformers, and taken into the future with Risk 2010.
Personally, I am happy with the version I have, with no plans to add more to my collection.
