Small World

Small World is a retheming of an earlier game, Vinci.

Here, it is given a fantasy retheme, the object being to take on a race, such as orc, goblin, dwarf, etc, and conquer as much land as you can.
Eventually, your race overstretches itself, goes into decline and you have to start up a new race, gaining VPs along the way.
The twist is that each race can have one of several special powers which give it a certain ability while its out there conquering, which leads to many combinations of races and powers.

The game is a lot of fun and obviously has lots of replayability. However, some combinations of race/power can make a race very strong or very weak, but thats the nature of the game. There are 4 different maps, one for 2,3,4 or 5 players. Because of this, on the small map, 2 players can find they soon interact with each other, and on the larger maps 4 or 5 players can quickly interact as well, so it becomes quite a well balanced game because of the different map sizes.

The game is easy to learn and fun to play. Deciding when to send each race into decline is quite important and will affect how you score VPs. Players are kept involved even when its not their turn as someone is expanding and taking over land occupied by other races, so that race you thought might last another turn or so suddenly finds its time to go into decline instead!
