Rally Cars

Possibly the most contrived and complex thing I've come across is making non-rally cars rally. You may think that it's just a case of fitting rally tyres to it, but oh no... In fact, even if you fit a WRC with non-standard dirt tyres it ceases to work on rallies. This is how you go about doing it...

First, select your non-rallying car. I quite like tooling around Tahiti Maze in a Toyota TS020 GT-ONE Race Car, so that will do nicely. Export the car to an ini file.
Now pick any car that can rally - either through fitting dirt tyres to it, or as stock like the World Rally Cars. I tend to use a Mitsubishi Lancer EvoVII - for no good reason. Export this car to an ini file too.
Open the Lancer's ini file. Copy the BaseType and BaseName lines along with lines 0 and 4. Open the TS020 ini file and paste the lines over the TS020's own BaseType, BaseName and lines 0 and 4. Save the TS020 ini as a new file.

Lancer Base Donor TS020 Base Recipient Hybrid TS020

Go back to mk's and import the new rally TS020 ini.
Before After

Save the file, put it back onto the memory card and go load up Gran Turismo 3. When there, select the hybrid TS020 (although it'll be called "Lancer Evolution VII RS" in your garage, and the thumbnail in Arcade mode will also br of the Lancer, not the TS020), go to the car modifications area and BUY the dirt tyres for that car. Save the game, go back to the Xport and backup the new file to the HDD.
Open the new saved game in mk's. Export the NEW TS020 hybrid and overwrite the old ini file for it. Open this file and also the original file for the stock TS020. Do the same as you did before with the BaseTypes, except this time you are copying the TS020 BaseType and putting it over the hybrid TS020's Lancer BaseType:
TS020 Base Donor Hybrid TS020

Save this ini, go back to mk's and import the hybrid. Although the car will now look identical to the original, before you started all this pissing about, I can assure you that it is now a fully-functioning NORMAL TS020 which can also rally.
It will rally! Honest!

Of course, you can skip the whole "restoring the original body" malarky, if you're not bothered that your TS020 is now called, and looks like in Arcade mode, a Lancer.

Go back to Road to Race.
Go on to Hybrid Examples.
Go back to the Hybrids index.
