There will be more things on these guys as free time develops. Of particular interest will be scans of both blueprints and filecards that people are seeking, as well as a complete database of codenames, specialties, and lists of accessories and weapons that each figure came with. This idea will aid the collector in finding the right accessories and weapons for figures, if they happen to get out-of-box or unpackaged items during their treasure hunts.
I may also put up commercials (avi or MPEG files) from time to time on specific GI JOE products sold by Hasbro, during that time period. I do have quite a few commercials on video. I can also put up scans of comics, so if you have a favorite, let me know. Currently I have ALL GI JOE, SPECIAL MISSIONS, DIGESTS, GIJOE/TRANSFORMERS, YEARBOOKS, and some ACTION FORCE-UK.
A lot of us would love to see GI JOE small figures make a comeback, and I am NOT talking the cheap plastic that Hasbro decided to use when they did the anniversary series. One thing that turned me off to GI JOE was the fact that Hasbro insisted on making the figures so UNREALISTIC, it was painful! I have never seen any soldiers in my time ever wear neon pink, purple, or other outlandish costumes or uniforms! For the enemy, that was fine for me, but when they did that to my Joes, I drew the line!
Going back to the first line, way back in 1982, Hasbro had a real winner! The original 9 figures, plus the additional accessory figures were great! Although they used the same bodies and heads many times, to me this was a force I was gonna have! They looked or resembled real military figures to me.
The second line was most impressive, and Hasbro had decided to use different outfits and heads this time. I was even more impressed by the third line!
Reading the comic was good too! You would know about the new characters when reading the comic, get some sort of preview of what the guys and gals at Hasbro were doing, and hope and pray that these characters would be out in figure form.
Things started getting weirder with the 4th line, but they still resembled soldiers to me, so I kept buying them. During all this time, I shot off many ideas to Hasbro myself, never to get back even so much as a reply from them. They were just too big and busy to answer me, I guess. That tradition still holds true today, even though I have managed to make some sort of headway, at least in the letter department. Anyhow, when the 5th line came out, the Cobra La really threw me, and I stopped watching their cartoon after that. I do confess though, I did buy the Cobra La..hehehe.
I continued to buy the 6th and 7th lines, although Hasbro was really making it hard to do so. By the time the 8th and 9th lines came out, I had lost total interest in the figures. It wasn't real or they didn't resemble real soldiers anymore. Perhaps I wasn't the only one with these views, since the toy suddenly died not soon after, and the comic went right with it.
Here are some scans, that I did a few months back, of box artwork . Soon I will start adding blueprint and filecard scans, as well as a database linking the specialties to the codenames (example: Commando-SNAKE-EYES). Till then, Yo Joe!
