Wilder One: Horsemen Of SteelXXXXXXXXXXXXGame: Steel Panthers 2

The wintry winds had begun to whistle through the Fulda Gap a little early in the year. It brought whispers of war. The invasion of Grenada proved to be the stepping stone for the tottering Communist regime to lash out. Hungry people throughout Russia clamored for food and change. It had been a hard year agriculturally, the second in a row. Deteriorating political conditions between the NATO members and the Warsaw Pact was heightened by the anger of the East Germans over the seeming prosperity of their brothers on the other side of the "wall." Premier Gorbachov, under extreme pressure from the Politburo rejects peace proposals from President Reagan and launches Soviet and East German forces into West Berlin. The Kremlin calls it a limited offensive designed to protect Soviet interests. Reagan angrily calls it an act of war. Reaching key members of NATO, already on standby, he secures an okay to repel the invasion with all expediency. But where are the Soviet forces headed. There can be only one answer. They are concentrating on the Fulda Gap. The American 5th Corps bivouacked in the area is the initial stopping force. Forces of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment are the first to respond. As Soviet tanks and troop carriers careen down the Autobahn, the horsemen of steel are out to stop them.

Wilder Two: The HammerXXXXXXXXXXXXGame: Steel Panthers 2

Orders barely reach NATO front line units when the Warsaw Pact "limited action" slams into them. The lines of the US 5th Corps, bolstered by West German militia on the east of Fulda, near Eisenach are hit the hardest. With the Blackhorse fully engaged, other armored forces pour into the area. It is a race against time. Soviet engineers quickly set up pontoon bridges to replace those blown over the Werra River. The vanguard of the advancing Soviet forces, bolstered with divisions of the East German Army is The Soviet 112 Guards Regiment. While not a Special Forces unit, there zeal in battle is common knowledge among their own. The unit has been given the nickname of "The Hammer." The strict timetable established by the Politburo is to be given top priority. The Soviets are hoping to at least gouge out a huge chunk of West Germany before agreeing to some sort of treaty with the Western Powers. Leading recon units of the Regiment are ambushed on the plains in front of Fulda. When word of the disaster reaches Colonel Romulo, he angrily issues the order for a general advance. "Flatten Fulda" is his stern command. "How you accomplish it is up to you, but I want it leveled to the ground. Cavalrymen and tankers of the US 1st Armored Division, Task Force Hembree, are not about to let that happen!
