GENERIC HQ UNITS
FOR TOAW
One of the problems when building scenarios for "The Operational Art of War" is off course the question of finding TOE:s for the involved forces. And my experience is that even when you get hold of reliable historical TOE:s, you will often find blanks in them. One of these is regarding the HQ units, which you often have to reconstruct "off hand".
This is intended as a help for all those, like me, who found themselves without any reliable info on the actual composition of different HQ units.
So how many men (and horses) could be found in a HQ during the period around WW1? Below are some examples.

I have so far only found one detailed TOE for a Division HQ with subordinate units, and thats for a German Reichwehr Infantry Division, circa 1921:

5. CONCLUSIONS?
If any conclusions are to be drawn from the above, it could be that a Regimental HQ should be larger than a Batallion HQ, and a Divisional HQ larger than a Regimental HQ and much larger than a Corps HQ.
And again with reference to the above, someone without any sort of information on a specific HQ could maybe use the Generic TOAW HQ units supplied below:
